The Shakahola tragedy, which occurred in Kenya in 2023, was a shocking and heartbreaking event that drew international attention. The incident is associated with a religious cult led by pastor Paul Mackenzie, who convinced his followers to fast to death in order to "meet Jesus." This extremist Christian cult operated in a remote forest in Shakahola, Kilifi County. Authorities discovered dozens of mass graves in the Shakahola Forest, where the bodies of cult members, including children, were buried. More than 400 bodies were recovered, with many victims believed to have died from starvation, as they were instructed not to eat or drink. Survivors who were rescued from the forest told horrifying stories of being manipulated, brainwashed, and starved in the name of religious salvation. The event raised numerous concerns about the rise of extremist religious groups and the lack of regulation of religious practices in Kenya. Pastor Mackenzie and several of his associates were arrested and
